Clover Glen, located at 5711 West Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio, consists of 92 one-bedroom apartment homes with a variety of layouts in a mid-rise, four-story structure and serves older adults starting at age 55.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A newly built, $15 million affordable housing community for older adults is now open and welcoming residents in the Westland neighborhood. Clover Glen, located at 5711 West Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio, consists of 92 one-bedroom apartment homes with a variety of layouts in a mid-rise, four-story structure and serves older adults starting at age 55.

“The investments made by National Church Residences and our partners is a positive step toward addressing the need within the Westland community and providing support for our most vulnerable population,” said Sarajane Steffes, senior project leader at National Church Residences. “Clover Glen also represents partnerships that will extend beyond today and will benefit older adults in other communities as we continue our mission to provide affordable housing for low-income seniors.”

Clover Glen offers independent living apartments ranging from 635 to 712 square feet with many modern features including energy-efficient appliances, washer and dryer hookups, and storage space with all utilities included in the rent. In addition, residents have access to a community room with a full kitchen, a sunroom, fitness center and an onsite laundry suite in a pet friendly environment. Clover Glen also has interior corridors, with controlled building access and an elevator.

Another unique feature offered to Clover Glen residents is access to National Church Residences’ chaplaincy program. It offers a diverse form of spiritual care beyond traditional religious support and focuses on the shared human experience, such as community building and the celebration of life.

The new community received funding from several local partners. Clover Glen received 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credits from the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, tax credit equity from Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, KeyBank Construction Loan, a Permanent First Mortgage from the Affordable Housing Trust of Columbus and Franklin County, Franklin County Magnet Funds and City of Columbus Bond Funds to construct this new community.

The Columbus-based architecture firm Berardi Partners designed Clover Glen and Model Construction, Inc., from Cincinnati provided general contractor services.

With the opening of Clover Glen, National Church Residences has a strong presence on the west side of Columbus with five affordable housing communities for older adults and nearly 500 apartment homes. Altogether, National Church Residences operates 47 communities with about 3,600 apartments in the Columbus metro area.
