l Church Residences announces the opening of Bretton Woods, a new $9 million affordable s and older. Located at 2511 Bretton Woods Drive, the
three-story, 54,000 square foot community features 62 one-bedroom apartments on a more than four-acre site in the Northland neighborhood. “The opening of Bretton Woods is part of more than $47 million in recent investment in the Northland community, advancing our efforts to provide low income seniors with more housing options in the area,” said Amy Rosenthal, vice president of Affordable Housing for National Church Residences. “We are excited to celebrate as our residents move into this beautiful new campus – and we appreciate support from the City of Columbus, the Northland Community Council, the Ohio Housing Finance Agency and other partners who helped make our vision for Bretton Woods a reality.”

The Northland neighborhood has a high concentration of vulnerable seniors facing housing cost burdens and chronic health issues, according to a 2014 study by the Kirwan Institute. As the fourth in a series of National Church Residences developments in the neighborhood – along with construction of Northland Gate and Salem Village and expansion of the nearby Senior Health Center – Bretton Woods was designed to address this urgent need.

Funders for the community included the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) via Low Income Housing Tax Credits, as well as the OHFA Multifamily Lending Program and the City of Columbus. CREA, Mercy Community Capital, First Financial Bank and OHFA were financial partners providing equity and debt. Bank of America also provided a grant. The architect was Berardi + Partners, and Ruscilli Construction Co., Inc. was the general contractor.

In addition, in partnership with Community Shelter Board, Bretton Woods will be the new home for five individuals previously served by the local shelter system – providing stable, affordable housing to these formerly homeless seniors.

National Church Residences already is pursuing expansion opportunities, seeking to add more senior apartment homes to the Bretton Woods campus.
