BAY CITY and HOUSTON, Texas — National Church Residences proudly celebrates the successful completion of property renovations at a pair of affordable housing communities for older adults —Tejas Cove in Bay City and Evening Star in Houston, Texas. Made possible through the 2022 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), these projects ensure safe, comfortable, and modern homes for older and disabled adults.
Tejas Cove: On December 10, Tejas Cove residents, community leaders and partners gathered to mark the completion of renovations to the 61-apartment housing community. The event was highlighted by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor Robert Nelson of Bay City, honoring the collaboration that brought these improvements to life. One of the highlights was hearing a moving testimonial from a resident who shared his incredible story of overcoming homelessness and the gratitude he feels for having his own living space after applying for housing five years ago. His journey is a powerful reminder of the impact we can achieve together.
Renovations at Tejas Cove include:
Financial partners for Tejas Cove included National Equity Fund and Mercy Community Capital, whose support was instrumental in realizing this transformation.
Evening Star: The celebrations continued December 11 at Evening Star, where residents and partners came together to commemorate upgrades to the 62-apartment housing community. Demonstrating the diversity and inclusivity of the community, the celebratory lunch was translated into five languages—English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese and Spanish—ensuring that all residents could share in the moment.

Financial partners Enterprise Community Partners and Bank OZK played key roles in bringing this renovation to completion, demonstrating their commitment to affordable housing solutions for older adults in Texas.
Both celebrations reflect the mission and values of National Church Residences—to ensure older and disabled adults have access to quality, affordable housing. These milestones were made possible through the tireless efforts of staff, financial partners, residents and local leadership who worked together to overcome challenges, embrace community needs and deliver exceptional outcomes.
“From coordinating with translators to ensuring every resident felt included, to the stunning visuals of the renovations and gardens, these events were a beautiful representation of teamwork and dedication,” said Brittany Prade, regional manager of affordable housing in Texas.
