Acquisition of Mercedarian Plaza Continues National Church Residences Growth in Cleveland

Press Releases | October 6, 2020

Mercedarian

Cleveland, Ohio – National Church Residences has added another affordable housing community to its portfolio by acquiring Mercedarian Plaza, the organization’s 13th senior rental community in the Cleveland metro area. The organization purchased the property on September 29, 2020, from strategic partner Catholic Charities Housing Corporation, who originally developed Mercedarian Plaza in 2009 under a Project Rental Assistance Contract (PRAC) through HUD. Property management also transitioned from Wallick Communities upon the sale.

“We appreciate the support of Cleveland City Councilwoman Jasmin Santana as we expand services to residents of her ward through our purchase of Mercedarian Plaza,” said Director of Senior Acquisitions, Daniel Patrick. “Ward 14 is a new neighborhood for our organization, and we feel welcomed in our efforts to expand and preserve affordable housing in this vital, growing community.”

The 40-unit complex serves seniors age 62 and older, offering one-bedroom garden apartment homes. Amenities include a community room, picnic area, on-site laundry and off-street parking. Mercedarian Plaza is located at 3229 Fulton Road in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood on the city’s south side, with an on-site bus stop and nearby shopping and dining.

“We are delighted to have this new opportunity to partner once again with Catholic Charities Housing Corporation,” said, Executive Vice President of External Affairs & Strategic Partnerships, Michelle Norris. “Our aligned and faith-driven missions of service will help continue to provide high-quality, affordable senior housing in Cleveland and across the state.”

With the addition of Mercedarian Plaza, National Church Residences’ Cleveland-area properties offer more than 1,000 units of senior housing to the region.
