National Church Residences Promotes Sonya Brown as Vice President of Property Management

COLUMBUS, Ohio ­– National Church Residences is pleased to announce the promotion of Sonya Brown to vice president of property management. She will replace retiring Pam Monroe, who served in this role after joining the organization on January 6, 2014.

Brown joined the organization in 2004 and has served as a property manager and in three regional leadership positions. Prior to her April 1 promotion and since 2010, she was a regional vice president. That role included leading a team of six executives who reported to her plus a field staff of more than 220 employees across 11 states. In her new role, Brown will lead a team of four regional vice presidents, covering about 310 affordable housing communities in 25 states.

Before joining National Church Residences, Brown was vice president of operations with C.D. Adams Financial Group in St. Louis, Missouri. While there, Brown processed and closed more than $4.9 million a month in residential home loans. Brown is a graduate of St. Louis University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Finance.

Brown’s vision for property management is both strategic and practical. “I feel my long-term experience in the field will allow me to help shape strategy that has an impact on front line team members, from a perspective of practicality and reasonableness,” said Brown. “Being industry leaders requires us to remain ahead of the curve, to take risks and set the trend. I look forward to championing big picture ideals and ensuring voices from all levels provide input.”

Brown’s leadership skills, industry expertise and broad knowledge of property types – from market rate to tax credit to HUD affordable housing programs – all prepare her for success, according to Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Senior Living and Affordable Housing, Steve Bodkin.

“I couldn’t be more pleased to have Sonya in this new role,” said Bodkin. “She has the perfect combination of operations, leadership and property management experience, with a heart focused on residents and employees.”

In response to Monroe’s departure, Brown shared, “Pam ushered in an increased focus and deep compassion for our residents, above all else. I hope to continue that spirit and emphasis, which is needed even more during this COVID-19 era.”

Bodkin highlighted that in addition to Monroe’s passion for the organization’s mission, she also had many accomplishments along the way, such as implementing the non-smoking policy at roughly 300 affordable housing communities across the nation. Monroe also led and planned the implementation of the maintenance tracking system for work orders and she directed the property management team to its best operational performances ever, added Bodkin.

“Pam was a great role model both as a leader and as a person,” explained Bodkin. ”She showed calm and patience in times of crisis as she worked with her team through difficult situations and Pam was intentional and thoughtful in the way she mentored regional leaders and staff members in our communities.”
