National Church Residences is excited to celebrate the grand opening of its new program for military veterans at the Center for Senior Health in northern Columbus. The On Point program, in partnership with the Veterans Administration, offers veterans who feel isolated a place to go and socialize with other veterans while participating in daily activities, games, bible study and much more.
“Isolated veterans throughout Columbus need a place to go so they can connect with others in order to break from that cycle,” said Terry Spitznagel, senior vice president at National Church Residences. “Our goal is for the On Point program to provide them with the important resources they need to regain their energy, meet new friends and improve their quality of life.”
A brief ceremony is scheduled from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019, and will include the staff overseeing the program from National Church Residences, as well as Vivian Hutson, Director of the Veterans Administration and veterans participating in On Point. Tours of the dedicated space for the program, located at 1700 West Dublin Granville Road, will be available to all those in attendance along with refreshments.
In addition, some veterans receive health services from nurses, therapists and social workers during visits to the Center. The program also offers field trips to such places as the National Veterans Memorial museum, the Ohio History Connection museum, the Memorial Day event for fallen soldiers at the State House and soon they will go fishing at the Sharon Woods Metro Park in the suburb of Westerville.
More than 80 veterans are enrolled in the new program, all of whom were referred by the Veterans Administration, which provides round trip transportation. About 20 veterans participate in the program every day – Monday through Friday.
