WHEELING, West Virginia – National Church Residences has expanded its affordable senior housing in West Virginia with the acquisition of St. Paul Terrace in Wheeling. The organization purchased the property on April 12, 2022, from The Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia. Built in 1983 as a HUD 202 development, St. Paul Terrace is subsidized and provides rental assistance for low-income seniors.
With 64 units, St. Paul Terrace serves seniors age 62 and older, offering one-bedroom apartment homes. Amenities include an exercise room, a community room, on-site laundry facilities and a city bus stop in front of the property. St. Paul Terrace is located at 2546 National Road, with nearby shopping and restaurants.
“We’re excited to bring St. Paul Terrace residents into the National Church Residences family,” said Director of Senior Housing Acquisitions, Daniel Patrick. “Located less than 15 minutes from our Bridgeport Manor community in Bridgeport, Ohio, the acquisition continues our commitment to preserving affordable senior housing in the West Virginia Northern Panhandle and in East Central Ohio.”
The acquisition is the culmination of a three-year-long relationship between National Church Residences and The Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia. Said Diocesan Bishop W. Michie Klusmeyer, “When we opened the door and began conversations with National Church Residences, it was apparent that they had a heart for this kind of ministry, they had a track record and they had a passion for caring for those in need.” Bishop Klusmeyer added, “We are proud that St. Paul Terrace can be recognized as a historically Episcopal entity and that the residents, who are among the most vulnerable populations, will get the care, attention and respect that everyone deserves.”
Shortly after taking ownership, National Church Residences is launching approximately $900,000 in improvements throughout St. Paul Terrace, including resurfacing the parking lot, all new windows in residents’ units, updates to the elevator and enhancements in all ADA-compliant apartments.
National Church Residences operates 13 communities in West Virginia. The acquisition of St. Paul Terrace expands the organization’s state-wide units of senior housing to more than 800.
