National Church Residences Acquires JRC Senior Housing in Canton, OH

1/22/2019 | Recent News

National Church Residences is pleased to announce the acquisition of Vassar Village, formerly JRC Senior Housing, located at 1732 Market Avenue North in Canton, Ohio.

National Church Residences began managing the property on March 1, 2018. It was developed in 1986 out of the vision of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and Father John Robert Coleman whose focus was on children and seniors within the community of Canton. The property was named after Father Coleman, using his initials – JRC. Recently, National Church Residences renamed the property Vassar Village, which reflects its location across from the Vassar Park neighborhood where the historic Vassar Park, established in 1942, is located.

“The acquisition of Vassar Village is an exciting addition to our organization,” said Matt Rule, senior vice president of development and construction. “This enables us to better help the growing senior population find housing and a community that will enable them to remain home for life.”

Vassar Village offers 65 units of housing to seniors age 62 and up. In addition, the community has multiple large common spaces for activities and events, a library, and a service coordinator to help connect residents to local organizations offering services they may need to age in place within the comfort of their home.

This acquisition adds another 65 units of affordable housing to our Akron/Canton/Youngstown portfolio, totaling 679 units across eight communities, not including our most recent project in Youngstown, Broadway Park, which will offer 60 senior affordable housing units when construction is completed in August 2019. Altogether, National Church Residences has 93 properties in Ohio.
